Now the sky swims fast Past my dim and idle eyes While something nameless Pleads for me to go and try and capture it Then from deep inside I split Cause I could stay put And tell myself that “this’ll be the last time” That I say That “this’ll be the last time” But I think it’ll really be Cause that excuse is starting to suffocate me So let’s try the other side Disconnect all associations that I’ve linked with a gray and brooding sky Cause come to think of it Your smile seemed to look All the better When it was framed with Less-than perfect weather So despite the wind and ice I think I’ll go outside The sky is painted gray today (I think I’ll go outside) Like the pale inside pouring out From the belly of a deer (I'll go outside) I see now That we're fading here And that’s alright! I’ll go outside

Hiya! It’s so nice to Finally Meet you Hiya! It’s so nice to introduce you to (It’s so nice to) A spongy tongue (Finally) To be wrung out (Meet you) Into your ear Endless things we are hiding For those with wit and charm We appreciate what you’ve brought (What you’ve brought) But it’s time to disassemble those walls And lean on us for once Hiya! It’s so nice to introduce you to (It’s so nice to) A spongy tongue (Finally) To be wrung out (Meet you) Into your ear Goodbye things we were hiding Let loose dinner has been served (it’s warm it’s warm it’s warm) It’s fried fish and pineapple (it’s warm it’s warm it’s warm) Its tartness bites at the tips of our tongues Where the things that we desperately want to express, hide But know they don’t belong OoOOO OOOooooo Or all the other things we repeat to ourselves When noone else is watching I just ask if you could empathize if the handle breaks And among these things I start spouting To an audience we’ve made for us On a bed our mouths can make In an embrace for one another

about

Drunk Uncle isolated themselves into a cabin on an East Texas farm to write and record the follow up to their debut Look Up in 2022. The result "O, brittle weather!" is a thoughtful, probing album that explores a cacophony of sounds in a playful and whimsical way. The album feels like a telling of a great story- songs like pages colored with splashes of acoustic and electric guitars, floating bass, keys, horns, and percussion that ranges from a whole kit to a single tambourine that succinctly cues up the next chapter. Narrated by melodic vocals belting out emotional poetry, "O, brittle weather!" seems to plead with you to keep listening until the last word. Then, it begs you to listen again.

Most bands are content to just collect a handful of songs and group them together as an album. Drunk Uncle strived to make something bigger than themselves. And wouldn't you know it, they succeeded.

"O, brittle weather!" comes out 5/24 on Count Your Lucky Stars. Available digitally and on vinyl.
